Pat Lykos
2017 Roberta Wolfe Bryant Community Service Award
Pat Lykos has been a force for good both in her professional life and in the community she has served in Houston and throughout Texas. She has been a passionate advocate of the “Do the Write Thing” Challenge ever since she volunteered her service to this program twenty years ago. Not only did she open the doors for thousands of Houston students to participate, but when fellow judges received her call to implement DtWT in their city, they acted. Today thanks to Pat, Texas has 8 additional cities participating in the DtWT Challenge.
Pat served as the DtWT state project director for 13 years, the Houston chair for 4 years and for the last three years has been the DtWT project director in Texas. Through her efforts over 500,000 Texas students have had their lives positively impacted.
She has a heart as big as Texas when it comes to those needing an advocate. Not only did she give of her time and talents toward the “Do the Write Thing” Challenge program so that young students would know they mattered, but she did so at a time when she was serving as District Attorney of Harris County.
